Secondary Standards Don’t Make Agriculture More Sustainable

The regulatory environment for food production in Europe is among the most stringent in the world. Some retailers have nevertheless developed secondary standards. These additional standards limit the use of plant protection products and disadvantage smallholder farmers without making agriculture more sustainable.
