Consumers have many safe and nutritious food choices available. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) advises people to make healthy food choices from all five food groups to get the recommended nutrients.
There is more than one way to eat healthy. In addition to keeping an eye on the amount of food and limiting saturated fats and added sugars, variety is essential. In other words, a balanced nutrition requires eating foods from each of the five food groups:

Consumers in North America and Europe, for example, are fortunate to have many safe and nutritious food choices available at affordable prices. However, malnutrition – that is, deficiencies, excesses, or imbalances in food consumption – is a global problem, and not only in developing countries. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), low fruit and vegetable intake is among the top 10 selected risk factors for global mortality. That is why both WHO and USDA strongly advise people to eat more fruit and vegetables. After all, they are delicious, they are nutritious, and they are safe.
