Did you know that peanuts are one of the most important crops for the agricultural sector in Argentina? Since 90% of all peanuts produced in Argentina are exported, it is essential for Argentinian peanut growers to obtain international certifications.
As part of the “Farm Assurer” course by the BayG.A.P. Service Program – which supports farmers worldwide in getting certified and connected to the food value chain – 20 experts from the peanut sector in Argentina participated in special training sessions this month.
With the completion of the course they received an international certification which, according to Luis Andrés Rodriguez, responsible for Grower Marketing in Argentina, “opens the door to new markets, especially those that are more developed and demanding.”
Peanuts are a very important crop in Argentina: 90% are planted in the Province of Córdoba, where twelve companies cultivate the growing area. Given that 90% of the peanuts produced are exported, it is essential for farmers to adapt to GLOBALG.A.P.’s international standards in order to ensure their competitiveness, to access new markets, and to expand their businesses worldwide.
Luis Andrés Rodriguez is convinced that “sustainability is the key to continuing to do business in a way in which everyone wins: the producer, the environment, and the consumer.”
